Common questions
Everything you need to know about working with us.
What does Forgeyard Digital do?
Forgeyard Digital is an independent software studio. We design and build apps for women's health and accessibility — starting with HRTMe, our flagship HRT reminder app used by thousands of women. We also take on bespoke software for clients who share our standards: privacy-first architecture, clean code, and genuine care for underserved populations.
Do you build bespoke or corporate apps?
Yes. We work with founders, clinicians, employers and health ventures to build custom software — native apps and the web platforms around them. This includes white-label apps for corporate wellbeing programmes, employer menopause support tools, and bespoke products for health startups. We're selective about the work we take on — we only commit to projects we believe in and can deliver to a high standard.
Can you reskin or white-label an existing app for our organisation?
We don't offer simple rebranding or reskinning services. Every project we take on is custom-built for your users' needs, though we do build bespoke apps that can integrate with your branding and wellbeing ecosystem. If you need a production-ready foundation, we can discuss adapting proven patterns from our existing work (like HRTMe) into a tailored solution — but it will still be engineered specifically for you, not a template with your logo on it.
How is HRTMe clinically informed?
HRTMe was developed with input from practising NHS clinicians and aligned to NICE NG23 menopause guidance: its language, dosing patterns and medical framing were validated against real UK prescribing standards. That clinical rigour is a Forgeyard hallmark — we build health software tested to safety-critical standards. We welcome conversations with NHS trusts, clinicians and health researchers about building apps that meet clinical standards.
Are you UK-based, or do you offshore development?
We are UK-based and all development is onshore. Jane McKay (Founder & Principal Engineer) is the named contact for every project — no account managers, no handovers across time zones, no outsourcing. When you email us, a human in the UK replies. This is deliberate: health apps require accountability, and we believe that means keeping the work local and transparent.
What technologies do you use?
On Apple platforms we build native apps in Swift and SwiftUI with Apple Watch support where appropriate — no cross-platform frameworks; we build for iOS the way Apple intended, integrating HealthKit, notifications and iCloud sync with on-device storage. The architecture is deliberately platform-agnostic: clean architecture (Domain-Driven Design) with a pure domain core, comprehensive automated tests (unit, snapshot and UI), and code structured to be maintainable by other engineers. On Android we build native Kotlin with Jetpack Compose to the identical bar — same architecture, same test gates, through Google Play with staged rollouts. The same discipline carries to the web platforms and services we build around our products.
How do you handle privacy and data?
Privacy is foundational, not a feature. All health data stays on-device by default. We don't require user accounts, we don't sell data, and we don't track symptoms or medication names via analytics. When we do use analytics (via TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first European provider), we only send aggregated, anonymised usage patterns — never personal health information. GDPR compliance is baked in from day one. If your project requires cloud sync or accounts, we design it with end-to-end encryption and minimal data retention.
How do we start, and what does it cost?
Start by emailing [email protected] with a brief overview of your project: what you're building, who it's for, and what success looks like. We respond within one working day with an honest assessment of fit. If we're the right partner, we move to a scoping conversation (no charge) to define features, timelines and costs. We offer fixed-price projects for clearly defined scope, or retained partnerships for evolving products. Every project is different, so pricing depends on complexity — but we're transparent about costs before you commit.
Is HRTMe your app?
Yes. HRTMe is Forgeyard Digital's flagship product — an HRT reminder app designed and built by Jane McKay (Founder) while she was on HRT herself. It is trusted by thousands of women managing complex cyclical schedules (gels, patches, capsules) that ordinary reminder apps can't handle. HRTMe is live on the App Store and available at hrt-me.com. It demonstrates our approach: solve a real problem, build it to be trusted, and support the people who use it.
